Access to urban space is a key consideration in the design and layout of new city-subsidized housing projects. Vienna backs user-friendly communal indoor and outdoor spaces that ensure communication, tolerance, and a diversity of interactions. The city also initiates and supports site-specific artistic interventions, which are implemented by a city-funded public-art agency, Kunst im öffentlichen Raum GmbH (Art in Public Spaces). KÖR creates environments in which art functions
as more than just decoration. The program helps make Vienna
a leading city in the promotion of public art.
